Jermell Charlo continues to fight the best - and now in roughly one month's time he will face the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, as he looks to match, Terence Crawford and Claressa Shields as two-dvision undisputed champions. Oh, and minor details, currently Charlo is the undisputed junior middleweight world champion, while his brother, Jermall is the WBC middleweight world champion.
Jermell Charlo versus Canelo Alvarez always felt like a mythical match-up until a press release let the world know that it was next. Canelo is a boxing icon, securing a legacy at middleweight, super middleweight and having a little bit (not a lot though) of success at light heavyweight - now will face a fighter smaller than him for the first time, in some time.

The most interesting development of this fight is it appears Canelo handpicked Charlo as his next opponent, for whatever reason, and Charlo didn't back down. In an era in which many fighters have tried to mirror the business career of Floyd Mayweather, Charlo further explained it is now a different time.
"Because everybody trying to be [Floyd] Mayweather," said Jermell Charlo to 92.3 LA. Everybody thinking they’re gonna be the 100 million-dollar guy, but the era has changed. Mayweather went through it, but he’s a one-of-a-kind."
As for legacy, despite being an undisputed world champion, some still have yet to put Jermell Charlo on the pound-for-pound list, which seems a tad unfair given the tough road he has had to climb to get to the number one spot. Charlo reflected very honestly on this subject with Gillie Da Kid and Wallo, as it is clear this is a legacy fight for him.
“They don’t really like me," said Charlo to Million $ Worth of Game when asked about where he should fit into the pound-for-pound list. "They don’t like my demeanor, my attitude...They will respect me when I’m done with the game, and they don't get to see me no more. They will go over all the old videos and all these moments like this and then they will give me my accolades. I’m cool without all of that, it keeps me humble, it makes me fight harder, it gives me motivation, and it inspires me to keep going...”
