It seems that Jose Benavidez Sr. believes that Jermell Charlo has a good chance of defeating Canelo Alvarez in their upcoming fight on September 30th, or at least those were his initial thoughts. He thinks that if Charlo wins, it could open up an opportunity for his son, David Benavidez, to fight Charlo for the four belts. However, there are several factors to consider.
Benavidez Sr. furthered his thoughts when talking to FightHype.com
“Jermell has been active," said Benavidez Sr to FightHype.com. "I’m excited about this fight, to be honest with you. He’s a champion for a reason. He’s good, he’s still young, strong, and hungry, and I could probably say he has a pretty good chance to beat Canelo."
Even if Jermell Charlo defeats Canelo, there is a possibility of a rematch between them. That would further postpone Canelo fighting other fighters in the division, such as David Benavidez.
Additionally, Jermall Charlo, Jermell's brother, might be another future opponent for Canelo Alvarez. Other potential opponents, from the rumored Canelo three-fight PBC deal are David Benavidez, Jermall Charlo, the twin brother of Jermell Charlo, David Morrell, and Errol Spence Jr.
David Benavidez is currently in talks for his next upcoming bout with rumors of it being a possible super-fight with David Morrell, but nothing official announced yet.
