David Morrell followed his second-round clubbing of Sena Agbeko by calling out the division's 'Monster' — David Benavidez.
"In 2024, I want to fight Benavidez," said Morrell. "One hundred percent."
Benavidez entered the running for Fighter of the Year with his thumping November win over Demetrius Andrade, which arrived eight months after his dominant decision win over Caleb Plant.
The victories added further pressure on Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez to put his undisputed super middleweight world championship titles on the line against the clear No.1 contender in the division.
But with Morrell advancing his pro boxing record to 10 wins (9 KOs) on Saturday at The Armory in Minneapolis, throwing the final punches ever on a Showtime boxing broadcast, an alternative opponent appears to have announced themselves should Canelo box Jaime Munguia on Cinco de Mayo, as ProBox TV sources from Mexico recently indicated.
After bludgeoning Agbeko, Morrell thanked his fans and his family for attending the event.
"Everybody came out for my fight and it's still very exciting," he said.
"This is the first time my dad and my mom came to watch me fight, so it's really special to have them here."
Morrell continued: "Thank you to my fans for coming to the fight. I’m teaching everyone who is number one. I’m ready. I tell everybody, my team, my family … I’m looking forward to next year. For now, I feel happy. Right now, I’m going to go to my house for Christmas and focus on next year.
"It’s my night," he finished. "It’s my time. It’s my year, and I’m looking forward to a good 2024."
