Teofimo Lopez wants Terence Crawford bout in the future

Teofimo Lopez has often defied the odds.

So it is no wonder that the fighter who once used the moniker 'Against All Odds', would call out the former undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford.

"If [the] fight comes [I'd pursue it]," he said on The Porter Way podcast.

Lopez is the WBO junior welterweight champion after defeating Josh Taylor. Yet, a series of events made the saga confusing. Lopez retired after the fight, only to unretire when the WBO was going to take his belt.

With Devin Haney and Regis Prograis vying for the WBC junior welterweight title this weekend, and the IBF junior welterweight champion Subriel Matias looking to be a problem, Lopez has a target outside of his weight class that he has set his sights on.

"As a fighter or fight [Terence] Crawford,” Lopez said, responding to a question about the best opponent he could face.

"I love challenges, I love it. How else am I going to learn? How else am I actually going to be great? And besides I am the first male [boxer] to become two-time undisputed."

He continued: "We are not too far away [in weight]."

Lopez, 26-years-old, called out Vasiliy Lomachenko when the odds were stacked against him. Then, Lopez won the fight, defying expectations.

Lopez defeated Josh Taylor earlier this year to become a two-division world champion when he was also counted out in that fight.

Lopez sets lofty goals and aims to be great. Now, Lopez wants to fight Crawford, who is viewed by most as the best fighter of this generation.

"People don't understand — why is Roberto Duran a great if he lost to all of those guys? Well, because he fought all of those guys. He gave them a helluva a fight despite Tommy Hearns … but that is boxing, that is what made him."
