Subriel Matias had some cryptic words for Teofimo Lopez on social media after Lopez toiled to a scrappy and narrow points win over Jamaine Ortiz.
Lopez outpointed Ortiz on Thursday as a part of an ESPN telecast in Las Vegas that was lackluster but saw him walk away with a unanimous decision.
Currently, Lopez holds the WBO junior-welterweight title, while Matias holds the IBF junior-welterweight title.
"Subriel Matias, no one knew of him until he started calling me out," Lopez exclusively told ProBox TV.
"He could be an IBF world champion, but he is the most softest fighter in the division."
Matias sent the following to ProBox TV's social media account.
"Who laughs last laughs better," Matias wrote, via a DM in response to the Lopez video.
Lopez, age 26, has a record as a professional of 20-1, 13 KOs. He holds major wins over Vasiliy Lomachenko and Josh Taylor, yet he has had close fights with Masayoshi Nakatani, Sandor Martin, and Ortiz.
Matias is 31-years-old and holds a similar record of 20-1, 20 KOs. The Puerto Rican world champion has forced corner stoppages in five consecutive fights.
Matias fought and defeated Maxim Dadashev, who died from his injuries, and Matias’s lone loss came in his next fight, when he was defeated by in nine rounds by Petros Ananyan.
