Lightweight contender Keyshawn Davis took a leap in class when stopping Jose Pedraza in Las Vegas last Thursday.
The 24-year-old Virginian moved into double figures with his sixth-round knockout over the former two-weight world champion.
“For the most part, I could do what I wanted to do,” Davis said in the post-fight media scrum.
“But he's a veteran. The first time I hurt him was a little round two, I was trying to get him up out of there, but I knew it would come back. So I just started boxing, keeping my defence sharp. I knew the defence was going to come eventually, and that’s what happened. You can’t rush things in the ring, I was trying to be real patient. This is just the beginning. I was 9-0, now I’m 10-0. I’m only 24-years-old, I got a long career ahead of me, but I am the best at 135 and I definitely showed it tonight.”
Following the victory he immediately called-out Top Rank stablemate Teofimo Lopez, mentioning that he “would be honoured to fight Emanuel Navarrete”.
“Because he gets on my nerves,” Davis responded, as to why he called out Lopez. “He do a lot of this [miming to chatter] like somebody is really scared of him. But behind closed doors, everytime have crossed paths with him, him and his father don’t say nothing. In front of all these cameras he got balls, you know what I’m saying.
“I’m me 100 per cent and I’m not going to stop being me. I’m not playing Teo, next fight we can fight. The Businessman is definitely in the building, we did the business tonight. One of the best at 135, for sure.”
