Speculation regarding the first ever PBC on Prime headline event is escalating.
WBO junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu will defend his title against the former unified welterweight world champion Keith Thurman on March 30 in Las Vegas, according to a post ESPN reporter Mike Coppinger made on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.
If aligns with previous ProBox TV reporting that highlighted a commission hold TGB Promotions has for "a professional boxing event at a location to be determined" on that date in Nevada, alongside a source with knowledge of PBC strategy who said an announcement from the company is imminent — perhaps as early as Friday.
If confirmed, it marks the second time 'One Time' Thurman has opened a marquee Premier Boxing Champions network deal as the Floridian fighter was a part of the return to network television when he faced Robert Guerrero on the very first PBC card. That event took place on March 7th, 2015, and was broadcast on NBC.
Now nearly a decade later, PBC is going digital and airs this fight on Amazon Prime as a part of their new, multi-year partnership.
Tszyu is coming off a red-hot 2023 in which he won three fights and became the WBO junior middleweight champion. The fight will end a 25-month drought for Thurman.
Tszyu is 29 years old with a record of 24-0 (17 KOs).
Thurman, meanwhile, enters the fight at 35 years old with a record of 30-1 (22 KOs).
The bout will be contested at junior middleweight.
Boxing Scene, meanwhile, reports that a WBA middleweight title fight between Erislandy Lara and Michael Zerafa will also take place that night, during the same, inaugural PBC on Prime event.
