Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez will not return this year, as Jake Donovan of BoxingScene.com learned that the former super flyweight world champion, who is now dropping down to flyweight will face Cristian Gonzalez for the WBO flyweight title.
Rodriguez who promoted by Matchroom Boxing and Teiken, is viewed as one of the vibrant new stars of the sport of boxing, as his emergence at the world level this year was one of the breakout stories of 2022.
Rodriguez’s move up in weight came along with Junto Nakatani moving up in weight to super flyweight as the WBO title is now up for grabs in that division.
No date has been set, but the belief is that it will happen early in 2023.
