Joshua Buatsi questions everything, even the postponement of his last fight with Dan Azeez, who suffered injury before they first were due to box.
The wait is almost over for these two fighters to trade blows as they finally do battle in London on February 3 to create a No.1 contender for Dmitrii Bivol’s WBA light heavyweight world title.
Buatsi seems to be a natural skeptic — someone who prefers proof, and probably a fan of the scientific method. He questions everything.
Azeez pulling out of his fight with Buatsi the week of the fight left a bittertaste for all involved — the promoter, Buatsi, and the fans.
“I question everything,” Buatsi told ProBox TV.
“How much people want to magnify it is up to the viewers, it is up to people. I just question everything. I am reading into too much, who knows? I question everything.”
Buatsi, who now trains with Virgil Hunter, the famed former trainer of Andre Ward, comes across the globe for his training camp.
Buatsi detailed how he was able to restart camp despite giving so much to his previous one with no result, no fight.
“You rest most importantly, let the body heal, and you find motivation again. You remind yourself what is at stake, and of course, you have to have the right people around you.”
His previous promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing let the media know he predicted that Buatsi-Azeez would be delayed.
The fight was called off the day of the Devin Haney-Regis Prograis announcement press conference. Hearn used the word ‘very strange’ to describe the fight cancellation. Also, pondering the alleged low ticket sale to event as further things to ponder.
Buatsi responded promptly to Hearn’s comments with one line.
“What a genius.”
