Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez squares off with fellow undisputed champion Jermell Charlo tomorrow night at the MGM Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Canelo fights on Showtime pay-per-view tomorrow night after signing a three fight deal to work with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). The red headed Mexican superstar had previously been working with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom with his fights being broadcast on DAZN, bar one fight with Caleb Plant.
Hearn’s courtship with Canelo saw them claim undisputed glory at 168 pounds, with a points defeat to Dmitrii Bivol at light heavyweight coming before a victorious trilogy with an aging Gennandiy Golovkin. A rematch with the Russian champion could never get over the line, leading to tomorrow’s pay-per-view matchup coming together. Charlo jumps up two weight classes from super welterweight, where he holds all four belts.
ProBox TV caught up with Hearn to get his prediction on Canelo Vs Charlo.
“It is a great fight!” Hearn said with some excitement as he began his assessment. “You know, it is two undisputed champions. I think Canelo is going to be better this time than last time and his last few performances. The injury has healed. I think he knows it is a tough fight. I’m expecting him to win by stoppage, late on. But, we will see what he has got left. I think Charlo is a really good fighter.”
Canelo (59-2-2, 39 KOs) hit a winning streak when his path crossed with the English promoter, defeating the likes of Daniel Jacobs, Callum Smith, Sergey Kovalev, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant. However, after a convincing defeat to Bivol and injuries, many in the industry have started to sense a decline in boxing’s biggest star.
“I think you have seen injuries.” Hearn answered to, if Canelo was on the decline? “Is that because of age, or is that just because of the amount of fights he has had. I think he has looked sharp and I think he will put a good performance together.”
