Current undisputed world super-welterweight world champion Jermell Charlo is more than confident in his boxing abilities as he continues his preparations to move up two-weight classes and challenge Canelo Alvarez for his undisputed super-middleweight title on September 30th.
The contest, which is billed as ‘undisputed vs undisputed’, will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will kickoff the launch of Canelo’s three-fight deal with Premier Boxing Champions following his decision to part from Matchroom Boxing earlier this year.
Despite undisputed champion going up ahead undisputed champion, the Vegas oddsmakers have Canelo a firm favourite ahead of the September duel. When speaking to the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Charlo is confident of upsetting the odds and believes that his attributes bring a lot more to the table than Canelo does.
I move better than him, My style is better. I feel like my speed is better. I got a lot of attributes.”
Charlo will be able to demonstrate what he can bring to the table in a little over three weeks despite being absent from the ring since May of 2022 due to injuries. Charlo was due to return in January against Tim Tszyu to defend his undisputed title at 154lbs but was forced to withdraw due to sustaining a hand injury.
Meanwhile, Canelo hopes to rejuvenate his performances following his May encounter with John Ryder last time out. Ryder, his WBO mandatory challenger for the 168lb marbles, was able to tag, hurt and leave Canelo knowing that he had been in a tough encounter despite losing a wide points verdict.
It would be wise to suggest that Canelo’s peak years are starting to fade away, considering that Canelo is 63 fights deep into his professional career.
Charlo is aware of that fact but ultimately believes what he will bring to the ring on September 30th will flourish and allow him to take victory and the undisputed championship at 168 lbs in the process.
“He’s a dog, and he got like 60 something fights and shit, but I’m great at what I do. What I have will flourish on the 30th.”
