Former undisputed super-lightweight world champion Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KO’s) has taken aim and responded to Jack Catterall following the latter’s victory and post-fight comments following victory over Jorge Linares in Liverpool, UK.
Catterall (28-1, 13KOs) would defeat the three-weight world champion Linares, courtesy of a unanimous decision points win.
Immediately post-fight, Catterall would call for a rematch with Taylor, having previously met in February of 2022 in Glasgow in which Taylor would claim an extremely controversial points win, with many believing that Catterall had done more than enough to claim victory and the undisputed title at 140lbs.
The bad blood between the pair has existed ever since, with consistent insult trading along with a rematch which had been set several times, collapsing due to injuries on behalf of Taylor.
Taylor would eventually return to the ring after vacating all but one of his world titles, which he staked against Teofimo Lopez in June at Madison Square Garden Theatre, NYC. Taylor would lose via decision to Lopez, who outclassed and outfought Taylor for significant periods of the contest.
“[Josh] Taylor, where are you? Let’s have it, you shithouse,” said Catterall, having scored a resounding decision victory over Venezuelan veteran Jorge Linares, the former three-weight world champion.
Taylor would respond to the call out from Catterall in typical mocking fashion, which Taylor has done throughout his interactions with his domestic rival. Taylor would criticise Catterall for not halting the ageing Linares, who was coming off three consecutive defeats.
“38-year-old, lost his last 4 fights, [Catterall] couldn’t finish Darragh Foley [in his last fight] but it’s a great win! Couldn’t finish a Sunday roast [laughing emoji],” Taylor wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The promoter of Catterall, Eddie Hearn, suggested post-fight that Catterall could well find himself in a position to challenge the of of the upcoming contest between current WBC world champion Regis Prograis and Devin Haney, who will square off on December 9 in San Francisco.
In recent weeks, Taylor has also indicated that his future will more likely take him away from Catterall and is set to resume his career in the welterweight division.
