Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney appear determined to fight one another next.
Posting on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, Garcia said this week that the "ball is in [Haney's] court," adding: "I'm showing you and the boxing community that I'm committed to this fight."
Responding, Haney said: "These are facts."
Garcia rebounded from a knockout defeat to Gervonta 'Tank' Davis — a monstrous success at the box office — with a stunning stoppage win over Oscar Duarte, just one week before Haney added another scalp to his win column when he dominated Regis Prograis.
Since those fights, Garcia, at least, informed Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar de la Hoya that he is determined to challenge Haney in his next bout — for his fellow Californian's WBC super lightweight championship.
"The ball is rolling," de la Hoya announced Wednesday on X.
"Garcia has instructed me to get the Haney fight," he added. "[We are] in talks with [Haney's promoter] Eddie Hearn."
The fight, should it materialize, presents Garcia with a tougher route to a world title at 140-pounds, as he had previously been linked with a championship bout against Rolly Romero.
It also presents Haney with another big name to compete against, having also shared the ring with Yuriorkis Gamboa, Jorge Linares, JoJo Diaz, George Kambosos Jr., and Vasiliy Lomachenko.
