WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has laid out his future plans and said he is in boxing for the long haul.
Fury was due to face Olesandr Usyk on February 17, but after he was cut in training the bout was postponed to May 18.
Usyk’s team condemned and criticized Fury, who subsequently flew back to the UK from Saudi Arabia, with both Alex Krassyuk and Egis Klimas calling on the WBC titlist to vacate his crown, and Krassyuk even saying Fury should retire.
“I’m hearing talk of people saying that I should retire or that I’m going to retire soon or whatever. I ain’t retiring anywhere,” Fury posted on Instagram.
The WBC beltholder said he had two contractually agreed fights with unified heavyweight champion Usyk while adding that he is open to facing domestic rival Anthony Joshua twice and then having a second bout with Francis Ngannou, in what would be a rematch of last October’s spectacle.
“I’ve got two fights with Usyk, for the undisputed twice,” said Fury. “Then I’m going to fight AJ at least once, maybe twice if there’s a rematch, if he wants one after the first battering I give him.
“And then I’m going to fight Ngannou again. And that’s just to start. So there are five little fights for you to whet your appetite with. I’m not going anywhere. Nowhere. I’m 35-years-old, in the prime of my life."
