Harlem Eubank propped up the Lee McGregor Vs Erik Robles Ayala main event in Edinburgh, Scotland last Friday night.
The 29 year old super lightweight knocked out fellow Englishman Ishmael Ellis in the 7th round to take his record to 18-0 (7 KOs). He finds himself in line for Frank Petitjean’s EBU title, with his promoters also having an eye on the British and Commonwealth champion, Sheffield’s Dalton Smith.
“Ideally we go for the European title with Harlem next, then Dalton Smith next year.” Nisse Sauerland said in an exclusive interview for ProBox TV. “That would be the ideal scenario for all of us. We can make that into a big fight for both boys, they deserve a good payday because it is a great fight, we can build that up. Hopefully Harlem can get some sort of title, maybe the European title, let's see. That is fight that can be made.”
The proposed bout between Smith and Eubank has started to gain steam over the past two weeks. Smith was last in action defending his British title with a highlight reel 7th round knockout over Sam Maxwell, where he also added the Commonwealth championship to his achievements last month.
“I think both of them see each other in the same way, they are contemporaries in the same weight class.” Sauerland added. “We work very well with Matchroom, so it a fight that can me made. As long as it builds nicely and there is enough attention on it, sometimes you get two guys who are very nice guys because they are actually gentleman, then it can be hard to build. But look at [Terence] Crawford Vs [Errol] Spence, they are both kinda nice, both gentleman to a certain degree.”
The EBU website has Petitjean down as making a voluntary defense against Eubank in his hometown of Brighton on November 10.
“We have got a couple of arena’s booked for October/November.” Sauerland confirmed. “Yeah will we head down there to Brighton, a nice trip to the seaside. It is a new territory to go too.”
Petitjean (24-6-3, 6 KOs) claimed the blue belt in Paris via majority decision defeating Spain’s Samuel Molina. He was unsuccessful in a previous crack at the European title losing to Denmark’s Enock Poulsen last April.
