Shakur Stevenson has an attitude in which he seemingly wants to be the best and has no interest in being cordial with anyone in his weight class. This was on full display in a recent interview with FightHype.com
The two-division world champion, who unified titles at super featherweight, now is looking for his world title in his new division - lightweight, after debuting in the weight class in April of this year. Yet, it is a former Vasiliy Lomachenko opponent that Stevenson had words for Jamaine Ortiz.
Ortiz, who fights on the undercard of Josh Taylor looking to defend his WBO junior welterweight world title, against Teofimo Lopez. Ortiz might be able to find some bit of solace as a superstar in the sport, Shakur Stevenson, calling you out is a compliment in many ways that you are a main event fighter. This will be Ortiz's first fight with Top Rank Inc., the same promoter as Shakur Stevenson.
“I would definitely be willing to smoke Jamaine Ortiz," furthered Stevenson to FightHype.com "I would beat the [expletive] out of him. [I would] beat him so bad. He [doesn't] understand what he talking himself into.”
In Stevenson's debut in the lightweight division, he stopped Shuichiro Yoshino in six rounds via a technical knockout. The win made Stevenson the mandatory contender for the WBC lightweight title currently held by Devin Haney.
