Teofimo Lopez: "He says he is going to beat the living out of me. I'm looking forward to it"

Teofimo Lopez is insisting his upcoming fight with Josh Taylor on June 10th is just another fight for him despite what is at stake and an opportunity to capture the WBO world super-lightweight world title at the theatre at Madison Square Garden.

If Lopez was to be successful, he would become a two-weight world champion following his success at lightweight, where he held three of the four world governing body belts till succumbing to defeat against George Kambosos Jr in 2021. “The Takeover” in 2022 returned from that split-decision defeat to Kambosos with two wins at 140 lbs against Pedro Campa and Sandor Martin, respectively.

Despite a heated press build-up between Lopez and Taylor, the American reiterates that it’s just another fight when speaking to Boxing News.

“Taylor has gotta say what he has gotta say. He says that he is going to beat the living out of me. You know, I’m looking forward to it.

“Every fight i have been involved with has been very intense. I’m looking forward to what i know and what i got to do, putting on a show and shocking the world once again. “

Teofimo responded to the jibes from Taylor, who has said recently that he wanted to send Lopez into retirement, of which Lopez calmly stated that he “just wants to hurt the man till he ain’t breathing no more. I think we are both on the same understanding.”

Lopez expects Taylor to try and use his size and “muscle” against him but is fully prepared for whatever the Scotsman throws at him.

“I think I’m going to see the same kind of fighter (Taylor) that we’ve all seen, someone that’s just going to come in and try to use his muscle, try to use his weight on somebody, but we’re prepared for all those things and can’t wait to really put it on display on Saturday.”

Lopez made controversial comment’s regarding his ambition to take Taylor’s life on June 10th. He explained that that was his way to “let people understand who I really am and in that way is by hurting a man that way.”

Finally, Lopez was coy on how he predicts the fight will end and states it is down to how he feels regarding what the result may be on Saturday night.

“It could be a knockout. It could be going to distance. I mean, it depends on how I feel that night.”
